RUDRA ASHTAKAM

નમામીશ મીશાન નિર્વાણરૂપં
વિભું વ્યાપકં બ્રહ્મવેદ સ્વરૂપમ |
નિજં નિર્ગુણં નિર્વિકલ્પં નિરીહં
ચદાકાશ માકાશવાસં ભજેહમ ||

Namāmīśa mīśāna nirvāṇarūpaṃ
Vibhuṃ vyāpakaṃ brahmaveda svarūpaṃ |
Nijaṃ nirguṇaṃ nirvikalpaṃ nirīhaṃ
Chadākāśa mākāśavāsaṃ bhajehaṃ ‖

I bow to you the Lord, who is present as the Ishana (God Shiva’s form) and whose form is present in Nirvana state (that’s is not affected by Karma). The one who is present everywhere, the supreme being, present in the form of Vedas. O the truthful one, beyond the gunas, beyond the thoughts or changes (vikalpas) and beyond any movements. The divine form who abodes in the sky, I worship you (God Shiva).

નિરાકાર મોંકાર મૂલં તુરીયં
ગિરિજ્ઞાન ગોતીત મીશં ગિરીશમ |
કરાળં મહાકાલકાલં કૃપાલં
ગુણાગાર સંસારસારં નતો હમ ||

Nirākāra moṅkāra mūlaṃ turīyaṃ
GiriGYāna gotīta mīśaṃ girīśaṃ |
karāḻaṃ mahākālakālaṃ kṛpālaṃ
Guṇāgāra saṃsārasāraṃ nato haṃ ‖

I bow to you, who is formless, the source of Omkara and the pure consciousness. Who is beyond speech, knowledge and senses, The Lord of Mountains. Who is fearsome (to the wicked), the Mahakala, who is beyond the time and the compassionate. The adobe of virtues, who helps me to cross the samsara (worldly existence) (I bow to you, God Shiva)

તુષારાદ્રિ સંકાશ ગૌરં ગંભીરં
મનોભૂતકોટિ પ્રભા શ્રીશરીરમ |
સ્ફુરન્મૌળિકલ્લોલિની ચારુગાંગં
લસ્ત્ફાલબાલેંદુ ભૂષં મહેશમ ||

Tuśhārādri saṅkāśa gauraṃ gambhīraṃ
Manobhūtakoṭi prabhā śrīśarīraṃ |
Sphuranmauḻikallolinī chārugāṅgaṃ
Lastphālabālendu bhūśhaṃ maheśaṃ ‖

I bow to you, who is white, resembling the snow mountain and whose being is very deep. Who is present in all the beings, whose body is auspicious and radiant. Whose head bears the streams of Ganga. The forehead, adorned with a crescent moon, and the neck with a snake.

ચલત્કુંડલં ભ્રૂ સુનેત્રં વિશાલં
પ્રસન્નાનનં નીલકંઠં દયાળુમ |
મૃગાધીશ ચર્માંબરં મુંડમાલં
પ્રિયં શંકરં સર્વનાથં ભજામિ ||

Chalatkuṇḍalaṃ bhrū sunetraṃ viśālaṃ
Prasannānanaṃ nīlakaṇṭhaṃ dayāḻuṃ |
Mṛgādhīśa charmāmbaraṃ muṇḍamālaṃ
Priyaṃ śaṅkaraṃ sarvanāthaṃ bhajāmi ‖

The one who is adorned with hanging earrings, whose eyes are large and pleasant. Who has a cheerful face and a blue throat, O the merciful one. Who wears the skin of animals as his clothes (Tigerskin to signify the victory over animal instincts which happened while teaching a lesson to the muni’s in Chidambaram, Elephant skin as his promise to Gajasura), a garland of skulls (of the Brahmas over different kalpas)
O the beloved Lord Shankara, the Lord of all beings, I bow to you.

પ્રચંડં પ્રકૃષ્ટં પ્રગલ્ભં પરેશમ
અખંડમ અજં ભાનુકોટિ પ્રકાશમ |
ત્રયી શૂલ નિર્મૂલનં શૂલપાણિં
ભજેહં ભવાનીપતિં ભાવગમ્યમ ||

Prachaṇḍaṃ prakṛśhṭaṃ pragalbhaṃ pareśaṃ
Akhaṇḍaṃ ajaṃ bhānukoṭi prakāśaṃ |
Trayī śūla nirmūlanaṃ śūlapāṇiṃ
Bhajehaṃ bhavānīpatiṃ bhāvagamyaṃ ‖

Who is terrible, extraordinary, courageous and the supreme controller. O the one who filled up the entire cosmos, I worship you the Lord who shines like millions of suns. Who removes the threefold sufferings, holding a trident in hands. I bow to you, whose abode can be attained by single thought (with devotion) O the Lord of goddess Bhavani.

કળાતીત કળ્યાણ કલ્પાંતરી
સદા સજ્જનાનંદદાતા પુરારી |
ચિદાનંદ સંદોહ મોહાપકારી
પ્રસીદ પ્રસીદ પ્રભો મન્મધારી ||

Kaḻātīta kaḻyāṇa kalpāntarī
Sadā sajjanānandadātā purārī |
chidānanda sandoha mohāpakārī
Prasīda prasīda prabho manmadhārī ‖

The one who is beyond the elemental aspects, who is auspicious in nature, who brings an end to the Kalpa. You, the one who always brings happiness/joy to the good people, The destroyer of Tripuras (so called Purari). Who is always happy immersed in eternal bliss and the remover of wrong thoughts or intensions. Be pleased, pleased O the God who killed the God of Love (Manmadha).

ન યાવદ ઉમાનાથ પાદારવિંદં
ભજંતીહ લોકે પરે વા નારાણામ |
ન તાવત્સુખં શાંતિ સંતાપનાશં
પ્રસીદ પ્રભો સર્વભૂતાધિવાસ ||

Na yāvad umānātha pādāravindaṃ
Bhajantīha loke pare vā nārāṇāṃ |
Na tāvatsukhaṃ śānti santāpanāśaṃ
Prasīda prabho sarvabhūtādhivāsa ‖

As long as the lotus feet of the Goddess Uma’s Lord are not worshipped by the beings in this world. They can’t experience the happiness, peace or the end to their sufferings be pleased, O the Lord who resides in all the beings.

નજાનામિ યોગં જપં નૈવ પૂજાં
નતો હં સદા સર્વદા દેવ તુભ્યમ |
જરાજન્મ દુઃખૌઘતાતપ્યમાનં
પ્રભોપાહિ અપન્નમીશ પ્રસીદ! ||

Najānāmi yogaṃ japaṃ naiva pūjāṃ
Nato haṃ sadā sarvadā deva tubhyaṃ |
Jarājanma duḥkhaughatātapyamānaṃ
Prabhopāhi apannamīśa prasīda! ‖

O, my Lord, I don’t know the yagna, the japa or the puja’s. O God I always bow before you at every moment. Please help me to uplift from the sorrows of the Birth and old age, miserable I am by the sufferings. My Lord is pleased, Protect me from the state of pain, O Lord Shambhu.
