॥ દોહા ॥
શ્રી ગુરુ ચારણ સરોજ રાજ નિજ મનુ મુકુર સુધારી ।
બારણું બિમલ જાસુ જો દાયકુ ફળ ચારી ॥

After cleansing the mirror of my mind with the pollen dust from the Lotus-feet of Divine Guru, I describe the unblemished glory of Lord Rama, which bestows four fruits of righteousness (Dharma), wealth (Artha), pleasure (Kama) and liberation (Moksha).
બુદ્ધિ હીન તહુ જાનિકે સુમેરોઃ પવન કુમાર ।
બળ બુદ્ધિ બીડ્યા દેઉ મોહી કરાયુ કલેસ બિકાર ॥
BUDDHIHEEN TANU JAANIKE,SUMIRAU PAVAN-KUMAAR।
BAL BUDDHI BIDYA DEHU MOHI,HARAHU KALES BIKAAR॥
Knowing my body to be devoid of intelligence, I remember Hanuman, the son of Vayu. Give me strength, intelligence and knowledge, cure my bodily ailments and mental imperfections.

જાય હનુમાન જ્ઞાન ગુન સાગર ।
જાય કપીસ તિહું લોક ઉજાગર ॥०१॥

Victory to Lord Hanuman, a king of Monkeys, ocean of wisdom and virtues and illuminator of three words (Heaven – Svarga, Earth – Prithvi, and under-earth/subterranean realms of the universe – Pātāla). The messenger/emissary of Lord Rama, abode of matchless/incomparable power, you are called Anjana’s son and also son of wind God.
મહાબીર બિક્રમ બજરંગી ।
કુમતિ નિવાર સુમતિ કે સંગી ॥०३॥
કંચન બરન બિરાજ સુબેસા ।
કાનન કુંડળ કુંચિત કેસા ॥०४॥

Oh great hero with valiant body as strong as Indra’s Vajra (Thunderbolt/weapon), the remover of bad intellect or ignorance or evil thoughts, oh the companion of the good. You have golden colored body shining with good-looking attire. You have beautiful ear-rings with long curly hair.
હાત બજ્ર ઔર ધ્વજા બિરાજે ।
કાંધે મુંજ જનેઉ સાંજે ॥०५॥
સંકર સુવન કેસરી નંદન ।
તેજ પ્રતાપ મહા જગ બંદન ॥०६॥
Hātha Bajra au dhvajā birājai
kāndhe mūnji janeū sājai
Shankara suvana kesarī nandana
Teja pratāpa mahā jaga bandana
You have the vajrayudha (mace) and flag/banner in your hands; sacred-thread made of the munja grass decorates your shoulder. You are incarnation of Lord Shiva, the delighter of King Kesari; your majesty and aura is revered by the whole universe.
બીડ્યાંબાન ગુણી અતિ ચતુર ।
રામ કાજ કરિબે કો આતુર ॥०७॥
પ્રભુ ચરિત્ર સુનિબે કો રસિયા ।
રામ લખન સીતા મન બસિયા ॥०८॥
Bidyāvāna gunī ati chātura
Rāma kāja Karibe ko Aatura
Prabhu Charitra sunibe ko rasiyā
Rāma Lakhana Sītā mana basiyā
You learnt all types of knowledge (14 types namely 4 vedas, 4 upavedas and 6 vedangas); all virtues and good qualities reside in you, and you are very clever; You are always keen to perform tasks for Lord Rama. You get great joy listening to Lord Rama’s story (Ramayana); Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita dwell in your heart.
સૂક્ષ્મ રૂપ ધરી સિયહિ દિખાવા ।
બિકટ રૂપ ધારી લંક જરાવા ॥०९॥
ભીમ રૂપ ધરી અસુર સહારે ।
રામચંદ્ર કે કાજ સવારે ॥१०॥
Sūkshma rūpa dhari siyahi dikhāvā
Bikata rūpa dhari Lanka jarāvā
Bhīma rūpa Dhari asura samhāre
Rāmachandra ke kāja samvāre
You appeared in front of Sita in an extremely minute form in the Ashoka Vatika; You assumed a gigantic/terrifying/scary form and burned the city of Lanka. You assumed a frightening form and destroyed asuras (demons – the armay of Ravana) and made the Lord Rama’s mission easier.
લાયે સંજીવન લખન જિયાયે ।
શ્રી રઘુબીર હરષિ ઉર લાયે ॥११॥
રઘુપતિ કીન્હી બહુત બધાયે ।
તુમ મમ પ્રિયઃ ભારત સમ ભાઈ ॥१२॥
Lāya sanjīvani Lakhana jiyāe
Shrī raghubīra harashi ura lāye
Raghupati kīnhī bahut badāī
Tum mama priya bharata hi sama bhāī
You brought the life-saving herb (Sanjivini) from Dronagiri (Himalayas) and saved Lakshman’s life; Lord Rama embraced you in delight. Lord Rama (king of Raghu Dynasty) praised you profusely and said “You are dear to me like my brother Bharata”.
સહસ બદન તુમ્હરો જસ ગાવે ।
અસ કહી શ્રીપતિ કંઠ લગાવે ॥१३॥
સનકાદિક બ્રમ્હાદિ મુનીસા ।
નારદ સરળ સહીત અહીસા ॥१४॥
Sahasa badana tumharo jasa gāvai
Asa kahi shrīpati Kantha lagāvai
Sanakādika brahmādi munīsā
Nārada sārada sahita ahīsā
May the thousand headed serpent Shesha sing of your glory!’ thus saying Lord Rama embraces you again and again. The Sage Sanaka (and other sages), Lord Brahma (and other gods), great saints, Narada, Goddess Sarawati and the king of serpants – Sesha”.
જામ કુબેર દિગપાલ જાહાંતે ।
કબી કોબિન્ધ કહી સખે કહાંતે ॥१५॥
તુમ ઉપકાર સુગ્રીવહિં કીન્હા ।
રામ મિલાય રાજ પદ દીન્હા ॥१६॥
Yama Kubera dikpāla jahā te
Kavi kodida Kahi sakai kahā te
Tuma upakāra sugrīvahi kīnhā
Rāam milāya rājapada dīnhā
Yama (God of Death), Kubera (God of Wealth), Dikpaalaka (God of 8 Directions), poets and Scholars cannot describe your glory/reputation enough. You rendered great help to Sugriva and made him friends with Lord Ram and bestowing on him the kingdom of Kishkindha.
તુમ્હરો મંત્ર વિભીષણ માના ।
લંકે સ્વર ભય સબ જગ જાના ॥१७॥
જગ સહસ્ત્ર જોજન પાર ભાનુ ।
લીલ્યો તાહી મધુર ફળ જાણું ॥१८॥
Tumharo mantra vibhīshana mānā
Lankeshvara bhae Saba Jaga jānā
Yuga Sahasra Yojana para bhānū
Līlyo tāhi madhura phala jānū
Vibheeshana (brother of Raavan who fought on Lord Rama’s side) accepted your suggestion and became the King/Lord of Lanka and the whole world knows it. Though the Sun (Lord Surya) is many miles away (1 Yuga – 12,000 years, 1 Sahasra – 1000, 1 Yojana – 8 Miles, (Yuga x Sahasra x Yojana) – 12,000 x 1,000 x 8 miles – 96,000,000 miles), you are thinking/assumed it to be sweet fruit and swallowed it.
પ્રભુ મુદ્રિકા મૈલી મુખ માહી ।
જલ્દી લાગી ગયે અચરજ નાહી ॥१९॥
દુર્ગમ કાજ જગત કે જેતે ।
સુગમ અનુગ્રહ તુમ્હરે તેતે ॥२०॥
Prabhu mudrikā meli mukha māhī
Jaladhi lānghi gaye acharaja nāhī
Durgama kāja jagata ke Jete
Sugama anugraha tumhare tete
Holding the ring of Lord Rama in your mouth, you leapt the ocean to Lanka, there is no surprise in it. Every difficult task in the world becomes easy by your grace.
રામ દુઆરે તુમ રખવારે ।
હોત ન અડયના બેનું પૈસારે ॥२१॥
સબ સુખ લહે તુમ્હારી સરના ।
તુમ રાકચક કહું કો દરના ॥२२॥
Rāma duāre tuma rakhavāre
Hota na āgyā binu paisāre
Saba sukha Lahai tumhārī saranā
Tuma rakshaka kāhū daranā
You are the gate keeper/guardian of Lord Rama’s door/court. Without your permission nobody can enter Rama’s abode. Taking refuge in you one finds all happiness and joy; you’re the protector, why be feared?.
આપન તેજ સમ્હારો આપે ।
ટીનો લોક હાંક તેહ કાપે ॥२३॥
ભૂત પિશાચય નિકટ નહિ આવે ।
મહાબીર જબ નામ સુનાવે ॥२४॥
Āpan tej samhāro āpai
Tino lok hānka te kāpai
Bhūta pishācha nikata nahi āvai
Mahābīra jaba nāma sunāvai
You alone can withstand your own power/splendor. All 3 worlds (Svarka, Patala and Pritvi) would tremble at your roar. Evil Spirits/Ghosts and Demons don’t come near when your name is uttered – Oh great Great hero!.
નાસે રોગ હરે સબ પીર ।
જપ્ત નિરંતર હનુમત બિરા ॥२५॥
સંકટ તેહ હનુમાન છુડાવે ।
મન ક્રમ બચન ધ્યાન જબ લાવે ॥२६॥
Nāsai roga harai saba pīrā
Japata nirantara hanumata bīrā
Sankata te hanumāna chhudāvai
Mana krama vachana dhyāna jo lāvai
By constantly chanting your name brave Hanuman, all diseases, pains, and sufferings will be eradicated. Lord Hanuman releases from afflictions, sufferings and troubles for those who remember/meditate him in thoughts, words and deeds.
સબ પાર રામ પપસ્વી રાજા ।
ટીન કે કાજ સકલ તુમ સઝા ॥२७॥
ઔર મનોરથ જો કોઈ લાવે ।
સોઈ અમિત જીવન ફલ પાવે ॥२८॥
Saba para rāma tapasvī rājā
Tina ke kāja sakala tuma sājā
Aura manoratha jo koi lāvai
Soi amita jīvana phala pāvai
Lord Rama is the king of all ascetics and he who takes refuge to him, you will manage/take care of all their tasks/works. Those who bring many of their wishes to you, they will receive fruits of abundant life.
ચારો જુગ પરતાપ તુમ્હારા ।
હૈ પરસિદ્ધ જગત ઉજિયારા ॥२९॥
સાધુ સંત કે તુમ રખવારે ।
અસુર નિકાનંદન રામ દુલારે ॥३०॥
Chāro juga pratāpa tumhārā
Hai parasiddha jagata ujiyārā
Sādhu santa ke tuma rakhavāre
Asura nikandana rāma dulāre
Your glory is famous in all the four Yugas (namely Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga), and illuminates the whole universe. You are the guardian of saints and sages, the destroyer of demons, the darling of Ram.
અષ્ટ સીધી નવ નિધિ કે દાતા ।
અસ બર દિન જાનકી માતા ॥३१॥
રામ રસાયન તુમ્હારે પાસા ।
સદા રહો રઘુપતિ કે દાસા ॥३२॥
Ashta siddhi nava nidhi ke dātā
Asa bara dīnha jānakī mātā
Rāma rasāyana tumhaare pāsā
Sadā raho raghupati ke dāsā
Mother Sita granted You a boon to become the bestower of 8 supernatural powers (namely Aṇimā, Garimā, Mahimā, Laghimā, Prāpti, Prākāmya, Īśitva, and Vaśitva) and 9 divine treasures (namely Mahāpadma, Padma, Śaṅkha, Makara, Kacchapa, Mukunda, Kunda, Nīla and Kharva). You have the treasure of Lord Rama’s Bhakti (rāma rasāyana) with you. May you always be a devotee of Lord Rama.
તુમ્હરે ભજન રામ કો પાવે ।
જન્મ જન્મ કે દુખ બિસરાવે ॥३३॥
અંત કાળ રઘુબર પૂર જાયી ।
જહાં જન્મ હરિ ભક્ત કહાયી ॥३४॥
Tumhare bhajana rāma ko pāvai
Janama janama ke dukha bisarāvai
Anta kāla raghupati pura jāī
Jahā janma hari bhakta kahāī
By singing your praise, one finds Lord Rama and escapes from pain/unhappiness in countless lives. One who sings of your praises, at the end of life he will attain Lord Rama’s abode and he will be reborn as a devotee of Lord Rama’s .
ઔર દેવતા ચિઠ ન ધારયિ ।
હનુમત સેહી સર્બ સુખ કરયિ ॥३५॥
સંકટ કાટે મિટે સબ પેરા ।
જો સુમીરે હનુમ્ત બલબીરા ॥३६॥
Aura devatā chitta na dharaī
Hanumata Sei sarva sukha karaī
Sankata katai mitai saba pīrā
Jo sumirai hanumata balabīrā
By not contemplating on other Gods, one who will get all happiness from Hanuman by worshipping him. All pains and sufferings will be gone one who remembers Lord Hanuman, the mighty brave hero.
જાય જાય જાય હનુમાન ગોસાઈ ।
કૃપા કરઉ ગુરુ દેવકી નઈ ॥३७॥
જો સત બાર પાઠ કર કોઈ ।
છૂટહિ બંદી મહા સુખ હોઈ ॥३८॥
Jaya jaya jaya hanumāna gosāī
Kripā karahu gurudeva kī nāī
Jo shata bāra pāthakar koī
Chhūtahi bandi mahāsukha Hoi
Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman! Show mercy on us like a Divine master does. He who recites this 100 times, he will be released/cut from bondage of pain & sufferings and he will get Great happiness/blissfulness.
જો યહ પઢે હનુમાન ચાલીસા ।
હોય સીધી સાખી ગૌરીસા ॥३९॥
તુલસીદાસ સદા હરિ ચેરા ।
કીજે નાથ હૃદય મહ ડેરા ॥४०॥
Jo yaha padhai hanumāna chālīsā
Hoya siddhi sākhī gaurīsā
Tulasīdāsa sadā hari cherā
Kijai natha hridaya mama dherā
One who reads these 40 hymns of Hanuman Chalisa will get spiritual attainments and power; Lord Shiva (who is the husband of Goddess Gowri) is the witness to this statement. The poet Tulasidas is always a disciple of Lord Rama (who is the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu). Lord, make my heart as your home/abode.

પવનતનય સંકટ હરન મંગલ મૂર્તિ રૃપ ।
રામ લખન સીતા સહીત હૃદય બસઉ સુર ભૂપ ॥
Pavanatanaya sankata harana
Mangala mūrati rūpa
Rāma lakhana sītā sahita
Hridaya basahu sura bhupa
Son of wind God, banisher of all my difficulties and embodiment of blessing, dwell in my heart with Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita as King of Gods.
